Join the Impact - Atlanta representin'
Got back from the Join the Impact protest at the Georgia State Capitol a while ago. There are some pics on my camera, but you'll just have to imagine them because I haven't pulled them from the camera yet.

I went with [info]dturing and we both held up handmade signs that we improvised at the event. Saw [info]gskreet and his partner, Bob Skreet, at the rally.

I have a pretty good picture of the two that I will upload later. I also have a good picture of [info]dturing. I met [info]howie at the protest and shook his hand. He was as cute in person as he is in pictures. I think I am developing a secret crush on him.

I held up a sign that said "No more Mr. Nice Gay". It was all I could think of. I stole the idea from somewhere online and I got some people taking pictures of it, so I count it as a success.

There were probably about 300-400 people at the protest, maybe more. It was a nice sized crowd and it was nice to see gay people actually engage in a political protest. I thought to myself, "This is what Pride should really be like."

Depended on the poll. Nonetheless they were close, and some did show it passing. In the end, I think a lot of people didn't think it would make it. Seemed unfathomable that Obama would command such a lead and Prop 8 would pass.

It was a miscalculation, of course.

But when Prop 8 first was introduced, it was VERY far behind and stayed that way. Then a bunch of out of state money came in for TV ads and turned the tide in the last few weeks. It all happened rather quickly. I saw the polls, but truthfully even though I was out at rallies up until the election, in my heart, I still thought it would fail. I was pretty crushed, as were a lot of people, when it passed.

I think don't think we believed it would happen.

We've lived in a pretty gay-friendly bubble here in California for a very long time. We sadly needed that to wake ourselves up. What's come out since has been amazing though.
