Georgia Equality, the gay political organization, is urging voters to vote this Tuesday in the upcoming Georgia primaries, but not vote for governor.
If you want to vote in the Democratic Primary, that's a good strategy. GE has a list of endorsed candidates for all offices here, if you're interested.
I can't get worked up about the primaries. I don't see many good choices at all, but I always vote, no matter what. I emailed the Cathy Cox campaign a few weeks ago and wrote them to tell them that Cathy had lost my vote in the Democratic primary.
I'm not gonna do that. I'm voting in the Republican Primary, and I intend to vote for exactly one candidate: Ralph Reed. His involvement with the Abramoff scandals is just now coming to light, and his presence on the GOP slate drags down the entire ticket, from Governor on down. His opponent in the primary is Casey Cagle, who is just as anti-freedom and anti-gay as Ralph is. The only weak GOP candidate in any of the big-ticket races is Reed. If Cagle wins the primary, he wins the race. If Reed wins the primary, the Democrats still have a chance to hold on to the seat.
An email exchange came to light last week in which Reed and Abramoff were discussing their plans to expand a life-insurance scam from elderly Native Americans to encompass elderly African Americans. They were getting elderly people to take out insurance policies with one of the fake charities set up by Reed and Abramoff as the beneficiary. One of their associates referred to the idea as "mortgaging old black people." If the Democrats can't make hay out of that little nugget, then there's no hope for the Dems in the South at all.
Last week, my dad and I were talking politics. He's a moderate Republican with Democratic leanings. He occasionally drinks the Kool-Aid on topics like immigration, but, overall, my dad has pretty solid political views. His statement to me was that Ralph Reed must be kept out of office. He views him as a dangerous man and a phony Christian. So, my dad and I will cancel each other out in the primary. If Reed gets the nod from the GOP, though, there are lots of voters like my dad who will be crossing over to pull the Democratic candidate's lever.

I'm not usually pessimistic, but...
I don't know, I keep thinking that Reed is going to do really really really well. Wouldn't be surprised if he wins, actually.July 15 2006, 19:03:42 UTC 5 years ago

i'm starting to think there's no hope for the democratic party in general.
